5th Ontario District
Worthy Faithful Navigators, Former District Masters, District Team Members and Sir Knights.
Dear Brothers and Sir Knights,
Lady Cheryl and I would like to wish all of you and your families a Happy Easter. April 1st brings the end of Holy week and the beginning of the month that Councils and Assemblies start the nomination process for the next fraternal year. It is very important that we build a succession plan. We need to nominate members that can see themselves helping to move up and continue to move the order forward. With May brings the elections and we hope a full executive. Covid has made a void that has been hard to recover from but we must continue to try. Councils and Assemblies need to continue to find new members and train them so in the future they can take our places. This is not new, every year our leadership continues to coach us to do this. I have in the last few years seen Councils and Assemblies fail and close. I worry that with every failure we lose a little bit more of our Catholic way of life. The Councils and Assemblies are one of the ways that our faith can build and grow. Running active programs that interest our youth will help us attract and evangelize our church. In turn it will give us the opportunity to build our order. A strong executive leads to a strong Council or Assembly. Vote and nominate wisely.
Save the date.
I just wanted to remind you to save the date. This September we will be starting to celebrate 125 years of the Knights in Ontario. Our history tells us that the first Council in Ontario was formed in Ottawa and the following older councils formed in cities along the rail system down to Windsor. So, it is very appropriate that the celebration starts in Windsor and moves through the province back to Ottawa.
Windsor Council 1453 back in its early days held an International Dinner. On September 14th 2024 we will be recreating this dinner to start our 125th year anniversary. The day will start with a rededication of the peace monument placed on the water front by the Knights of Columbus State Board in 1967. We will then go across the street to the St. Clair Center for the Arts and host an Exemplification in the 3rd degree which will be open for both our brothers in Canada and the U.S. Following that we will have dinner in the hall next to the Exemplification. After dinner there will be fraternal time and a D.J. with music to enjoy and dance to after the dinner.
There will be 350 tickets available for the dinner. We will take orders for tickets now but we will not have the price for tickets until after the second week of March. For councils that wish to stay in the city that evening we have arranged for a block of rooms to be held at a discounted rate at the hotel next door. If you are thinking of staying and need a room, please let us know. If you have new members wanting to join, what better time would it be then at this special event. Remember this only comes around once every 125 years. So again, save the date September 14th 2024.
Vivat Jesus!!
